Recent research has emphasized the importance of sleep on health.
It’s one of the main lifestyle factors that influence our well being (along with exercise, diet, and mental health).
In a study from Winfred in 2023, he found that sleep regularity (when you go to sleep and wake up) was a bigger predictor of mortality than how long you sleep.
“Higher sleep regularity was associated with a 20%–48% lower risk of all-cause mortality
a 16%–39% lower risk of cancer mortality
a 22%–57% lower risk of cardiometabolic mortality”
One caveat is that this was true for everyone except those that slept under 6 hours.
Sometimes it can be hard to get sleep regularity when you have other life stuff going on (jobs, kids, social life, etc).
One of the recommendations from sleep experts is to wake up at the same time everyday.
This is sometimes easier to control. And will lead to going to bed on time the following day.
Sleep regularity is challenging.
But because of its impact on our health, we may want to work on it.
